Bernhard Willhelm’s summer/spring 13 collection is one of my favourite collections at the minute. As I look through the collection I feel as though I’m experiencing some form of acid trip – he introduces a kaleidoscope of colours, patterns and exotic prints.
Willhelm has been influenced by many things; African tribes, the cyber gothic generation, life-like mannequins and most of all surrealism at its most intense. All so different from one another but combined in a way that draws you into a dream world only the most vivid of imaginations could create.
Judging by the recent London Men’s Collections, menswear designers are experimenting more than ever – breaching into boundaries that may be seen as utterly bizarre. Out of his mind Willhelm may appear; it works, and it’s exciting.
What does this say for the future of menswear? It’s time to shine for the male generation – even now men are styling skirts better than the average woman could.
